Murder Mystery FAQs

For those of you who have never attended a murder mystery event before, or if you just need a quick refresher from last time, we’ve put together some helpful guidelines that will help you immerse yourself into the festivities of the evening!

How does this work?

Everyone is assigned a character before the party, and someone (or someones!) will be the murderer! Throughout the night, you'll engage in conversations, interrogations, and discussions with other guests. Each exchange will reveal new clues, motives, and possible red herrings, adding depth to the mystery. There may even be a puzzle or two to solve!

We plan on the murder mystery to take around 1.5-2 hours to complete, after which we can chat, dance, and have fun together for as long as people want to hang out!

What should I wear?

Come dressed in accordance with the character you've been assigned. Have fun with it - it is Halloweekend after all! You may want to bring something with you to take some notes in, if that’s your vibe.

What should I bring?

Please bring a drink and/or snack to share. We'll also have some snacks and an assortment of alchoholic and non-alchoholic beverages.

How should I prepare for the party?

Familiarize yourself with the character brief that was sent to you before the party. This will give you insight into your character's personality, motivations, and relationships with others. If you have any questions or need any help developing your background, feel free to reach out to us!

Once I'm at the party, what should I do?

Follow these basic guidelines once you arrive for the optimal murder mystery experience!

1. Stay in character

Once you arrive at the party, stay in character throughout the event. Engage in conversations, interact with others, and react to situations as your character would.

2. Use your character name

Address other guests by their character names and expect the same in return. We’ll provide you with a nametag at the beginning of the night to help you and others remember your name.

3. Respect the plot

Respect the overarching plot of the murder mystery. Try to uncover clues, share information with others, and work towards solving the mystery without breaking character.

4. Share information sparingly

While you should share information with others, be cautious about what you reveal! Your character may have secrets, and part of the fun is in uncovering them.

5. Listen actively

Pay close attention to what other guests are saying and doing. You might pick up important clues or uncover relationships that can be vital to solving the mystery.

6. Engage with everyone

Interact with all the guests, not just a select few. This helps spread information and keeps the game flowing.

7. Enjoy the role

Don't be afraid to have fun with your character! Embrace their quirks, and let your imagination run wild within the context of the game!

8. Respect personal boundaries

Remember that it's a game, and while you may be playing a character with certain traits, respect the personal boundaries and comfort levels of other guests.

9. Solve the mystery

Work with others to solve the mystery and don't be afraid to share your theories. It's a collaborative effort!

10. Ask the hosts for help

If you're confused about your character, the plot, or how to proceed, don't hesitate to ask us for clarification! Send us an email before the party if you need any help with your character beforehand!
